Reading: End of Year expectations
Secure reading White book band, beginning to read Lime
• Secure with year group phonic expectations.
• Recognise simple recurring literary language.
• Read ahead to help with fluency and expression.
• Comment on plot, setting & characters in familiar &
unfamiliar stories.
• Recount main themes and events.
• Comment on structure of the text.
• Use commas, question marks and exclamation marks to vary
expression.
• Read aloud with expression and intonation.
• Recognise:
o commas in lists
o apostrophe of omission and possession (singular noun)
• Identify past/present tense and why the writer has used a
tense.
• Use content and index to locate information.
Reading Record Books
Every time your child reads they will receive a sticker in their reading record and
on the reading chart on the wall. Each time they have read ten books they will
receive a certificate in Assembly from the Head Teacher.
Home Reading Scheme:
Read to Me
• A book to share at home with Mum, Dad,
Brother, Sister, Grandad
• For you to read to your child
• After 5 books a certificate is given
Writing
• To write different kinds of sentences:
statement (The brown dog is sitting on the fluffy green rug.)
question (What would you like to eat today?)
exclamation (What a pretty dress you’re wearing!)
command (Put your shoes on.)
• Write using subordination (when, if, that, because)
• Correct use of verb tenses
• Write with correct and consistent use of:
* Capital Letters
* Full stops
* Question marks
* Exclamation marks
• Use commas in a list.
• Use apostrophe to mark omission and singular possession in nouns.
• Write under headings.
• Write lower case letters correct size relative to one another.
• Show evidence of diagonal and horizontal strokes to join handwriting.

Maths
• Compare and order numbers up to 100 and use < > =.
• Read and write all numbers to 100 in digits & words.
• Say 10 more/less than any number to 100.
• Count in steps of 2, 3 & 5 from zero and in 10s from any number (forwards
and backwards).
• Recall and use multiplication & division facts for 2, 5 & 10 tables.
• Recall and use +/- facts to 20.
• Derive and use related facts to 100.
• Recognise place value of any 2-digit number.
• Add & subtract:
o 2-digit nos & ones
o 2-digit nos & tens
o Two 2-digit nos
o Three 1-digit nos
• Recognise and use inverse (+/-).
• Calculate and write multiplication & division calculations using multiplication
tables.
• Recognise, find, name and write 1/3; 1/4; 2/4; 3/4.
• Write and recognise equivalence of simple fractions.
• Tell time to five minutes, including quarter past/to.

Behaviour for learning
Penguins represent resilience. They like a challenge
and are willing to have a go. They know that learning
can sometimes be hard and are willing to persevere.
They understand that they must take a risk and
mistakes are how we learn.
Owls represent reflection. Owls use different ways
to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses. They
are self-aware and are able to recognise and
celebrate their successes. They are able to devise
their own next steps
Monkeys represent resourcefulness.
Monkeys are motivated to work
independently and know the
resources they need to achieve a
goal. They can manage themselves
and work without distracting others.
They can make their own decisions
and organise themselves.
Meerkats represent teamwork. Meerkats can work
together to achieve more. They can listen to and
communicate ideas clearly in a group and show
empathy for others. They inspire the trust and
confidence of others.
Dolphins represent respect. They show
respect to each other at all times. They are
helpful members of the community and take
responsibility for themselves and others.
They have good manners and communicate
well.
