Memory
For two or more players.
Spread two sets of cards face
down on the floor or table.
Take it in turns to turn over two
cards. Say the numbers. If the
two numbers are a matching
pair, they are removed and that
player has another turn.
2 Digit Numbers
Spread the cards out (numbers
showing).
Create a 2 digit numbers using
the following criteria:
• Smaller than 20, or
• Between 10 and 50, or
• Larger than 50, etc.
Make up your own criteria to
follow.
Addition
Shuffle the cards and place in a
pile with the numbers facing
down. Place one card face up.
Next to that card place another
card face up. Add the two
numbers together.
Continue by turning the next 2
cards over and adding again.
What strategy did you use to
solve this? Is there another
strategy that would have
worked?
What’s my number?
Spread the cards out (numbers
showing).
Player 1 creates a number using
the cards without showing the
player 2. Using the clues of the
remaining numbers and asking
questions, player 2 guesses what
the hidden number is.
You can extend this activity by
removing the remaining cards
from view and limiting the
number of questions.
Snap
For two or more players.
Shuffle two sets of number
cards. Share evenly between
players. Place face down in a pile
in front of each player. Take it in
turns to turn over a card and
place on a pile in the centre. If
two consecutive cards match.
The first player to slap the pile
saying “snap” wins and adds the
whole pile to the bottom of their
pile.
Subtraction 1
Use the 10 card (put the 11
aside). Shuffle the remaining
cards and place in a pile with the
numbers facing down.
Take the top card and subtract it
from 10.
Doubles
Shuffle the cards and place in a
pile with the numbers facing
down.
Turn the top card over and
double the number. Use concrete
materials if needed. E.g. buttons,
dried beans.
Turn the next card over and
repeat. Go through the whole
pack of number cards.
2 and 3 Digit Numbers
Using your cards make:
*a number smaller than 10
*a number larger than 25
*a number larger than 100
Subtraction 2
Shuffle the cards and place in a
pile with the numbers facing
down. Choose a target number
that you will use to subtract
from and write it on paper.
Place one card face up next to
the number. Subtract that
number from the number on the
paper.
Continue by changing the target
number on the paper and start
again.
Doubles +1

with the numbers facing down. Turn
one over and use instant recall to
