Subtracting fractions requires a
common denominator

To add or subtract with decimals you
LINE up the decimals!
Ex: 2.345 + 17.4
Ex: 62.34 - 5
To multiply or divide with decimals you
place the decimal in the answer based
on the number of digits behind the
decimal in each term. The decimals in
the problem do NOT have to line up.
Ex: 1.234 x 56.7

Ex: 4.2 ÷ 3

When counting all their money they add
in -$5.000 to show they still owe the bank.


If you don’t see a negative
or positive sign in front of a
number it is positive.


Rule #1 – If the signs are the same,
Add and Keep the sign
9 + 5 = 14
-9 + -5 = -14
Solve the Problems
-3 + -5 = -8

Integer Rules

Rule #2 – If the signs are different…
“Opposites Subtract” and keep the
sign of the bigger number!
