How to write fractions?
A fraction represents parts of a whole, the
numerator being the number of parts we have and
the denominator being the total number of parts.

How to compare fractions
When we compare we want to determine whether the
fractions are equivalent, or if one is greater than the other.
If the numerators are the same and denominators are differentTHINK that the fraction with the bigger denominator is smaller
BECAUSE the pieces are smaller!!!
If the denominators are the same and the numerators are different,
THINK that the fraction with the bigger numerator is bigger
BECAUSE more pieces are taken up!!!
IF both the denominators and numerators are different you have to
THINK even harder!!! WHAT DO YOU DO?

How to recognize equivalent fractions
Equivalent fractions are fractions that have the
same value or represent the same part of an object.
If a pie is cut into two pieces, each piece is also
one-half of the pie. If a pie is cut into 4 pieces, then
two pieces represent the same amount of pie that
1/2 did. We say that 1/2 is equivalent to 2/4.

How to write mixed numbers
An improper fraction is a fraction that has a numerator
larger than or equal to its denominator.
A proper fraction is a fraction with the numerator smaller
than the denominator.
A mixed number a number consisting of a whole number and
a fraction
Can anybody tell me what this
mixed number would be as an
improper fraction?

How to add fractions
There are 2 Simple Steps to add fractions:
Step 1: Make sure the bottom numbers (the denominators)
are the same
Step 2: Add the top numbers (the numerators).
Put the answer over the the same denominator

How to subtract fractions
There are 2 Simple Steps to subtract fractions:
Step 1: Make sure the bottom numbers (the denominators)
are the same
Step 2: Subtract the top numbers (the numerators).

How to problem solve with FRACTIONS!!!!
Remember:
You have to be able to problem solve with fractions,
So DO NOT FORGET your problem solving steps!
Who can remember what they are?
1. Re-read the problem as many times as needed
2. Organize your information to decide what you need to do
3. Answer the problem
4. Check your work! Does your answer make sense?
Try just a few problem solving ?????
