The Story of the
“Little Healthy Helpers”
If you are up to the task,
There is a question Mama Bear wants to ask.
“Since you are a friend of Brother and Sister bear,
Can you help me show them why they should care?
The problem is that they eat junk food too much,
And I want them to find healthy habits in food and such.
It is only out of love and concern,
They need to know nutritional foods is what our bodies
yearn.
Tell them types of fruits, vegetables, and other tasty galore
Then we’ll grab a buggy and pick up healthy foods more!”

For the Teacher:
This game can be used as either a one on one game or a group against group
game. It might be more exciting and friendship building to create two teams and get the
students to pick team names in relation to Berenstain Bears, such as Berenstain Buddies.
(I mention that so they can become characters in the game.) The teacher will flip a coin
to decide which team goes first. Based on student behavior that day, the teacher will
choose a captain for each team. Each captain for today’s game will answer the questions
on the computer based on their group’s decision. It is the teacher’s discretion on
whether each student will answer a question or whether several students will talk over
each answer.
For every correct answer, the team will choose from the serving bowl.
Read this to the students:
Who wants to help Mama Bear out? Well, before you can, she must know what
you know about foods. To help Mama Bear, you have to be the first to answer 15 foodrelated questions correctly. For every correct answer, the team will choose from the
serving bowl. The catch, however, is that you also have to be the first to complete the
board game with the 15 servings placed in the correct number and food group spots.
Only one question per turn is allowed. And the first question to answer is number one, the
second is question two, and so on. However when a team hits a Berenstain Bonus- they
have the opportunity to win 2 servings if they correctly answer the question. Keep in
mind to win, you have to have the proper amount of servings for each food group on the
team’s game board at the end of the game.
Remember you can look at the key food pyramid at any time. Optimally, you
want 6 servings of the bread group, 3 vegetables, 2 fruits, 2 dairy, 2 meat, and since
sweets should be minimal, 0 to 1 in this area.
