 Write each addend in Expanded Form
(stretch the numbers out using an equation)
 Add the hundreds together
 Add the tens together
 Add the ones together
 Add all the sums together to get the
final answer

Ungrouping Method for Subtraction
 Write the equation.
 Determine if you have enough ones and tens to
subtract.
 If you do not have enough ones to solve your
subtraction problem, break apart both numbers into
tens and ones (similar to expanded method for
addition).
 Look at the tens column. Cross out your largest ten
and take away ten from that number

 Transfer the ten to the ones and add ten ones.
 This should create a new group of tens and ones that
you should be able to accurately subtract now.
 Add back up your new tens and ones to get your
answer.
