Math expressions represent a
convenient way to translate verbal
expressions
What is the area of a rectangle?

any letter that represents an unknown
number.
Algebraic Expression
An algebraic expression is a quantity that
contains numbers and variables.

A term is a number, a variable, or a product of
numbers and variables.

There are five variables which are like
terms therefore we simply add them like
we would if they were numbers.


Rearrange the variables so that all like terms are
side by side.
2t2 – 5t2 + 8 (notice that the sign in front of the
number came with the number)
