Original Measurement Setup
PicoScope 4227

Probe Ground Clip
▐
0) Pin cap (shown below) is taken off.
▐
1) One Probe is employed. The probe is
connected to one channel in the oscilloscope.
▐
2) Power Consumption is measured as the
voltage drop in the 1 Ohm resistor, i.e. Power
= Channel A
▐
3) (After measurement) Pin cap is put back in
place (JP30-1 and JP30-2 are connected).

PCI<->SDIO
Measurement Board: Connects to
PC using an SDIO interface
Using this measurement setup the PCI<->SDIO card
in the PC got short circuited. My guess is that
connecting the Probe Ground Clip to the Resistor
created a short circuit between the PCI<->SDIO
board and the measurement board.
Suggested Measurement Setup
PicoScope 4227
▐ 1) Two Probes are employed. Each
probe is connected to one channel in the
oscilloscope.

▐ 2) Power Consumption is measured as
the voltage drop in the 1 Ohm resistor,
i.e. Power = Channel A – Channel B
▐ 3) Important: The Probe Ground Clip for
each probe must be connected to the
ground of the prototype board.

Will this suggested measurement
setup avoid a short-circuit in the
