What is a part of
speech?
Each part of speech tells how the
word is used.
It does not tell what the word is.
A noun is a word used to
name a person, animal,
place, or thing.

• In this sentence, "books" is a noun,

A verb describes something
about the subject of the
sentence. It express actions,
events, or states of being.
