Verb tenses
Simple present
• Simple present is used to talk about facts ,
habits and with adverbs of frequency :
• He, she, it
base (infinitive + s )
• I, we, they, you
( base) infinitive
Time adverbials
• Indefinite adverbs
• Always, sometimes, often , usually ,
normally ,generally, frequently.
• Definite adverbs
• daily, weekly, every(day,week,month,year) ,
now and then, from time to time, ever, never

Past continuous

Time adverbials
• Past continuous is used with the following
adverbs :
• When ,while , as, just as
Example :

her mother .
Past perfect
• It is used when two verbs happened in the past ;
the one happened before is always past perfect :
• Its structure is
** Sub+had+p.p
• They had studied their homework before they
went out
Time adverbials
• The adverbs that come with past perfect are :
• Before , after, by+any year in the past)
(when –already), no sooner, (by the time +
sub+v2.)
