Present tense play Y9
Skills:
Knowledge about verbs
and tenses
• 1. Students were taught the present tense of
“ER” verbs
• 2. They were shown the following script.
• (found on the internet)
• 3. They worked in teams and had to come up
with a similar play to explain the formation of
ER verbs in the present tense
• 4. Students wanted to go further and have
decided to create some display to have this for
future reference. They have made a start and
have already created an “ER” verb tree.
Outcome:
• This worked well and the students were really
positive about doing the play.
• Students enjoyed having their performances
recorded on video as they could watch it
themselves and evaluate it.
• They were then given a test on other regular “er”
verbs in the next lesson. All students could
remember perfectly their formation and
pronunciation.
• Feedback:
• “We learn better when we do fun things”
• “Now we know our the “er” endings really well and
we also know how to pronounce the words because
we practised them so much.”

you help me?
• 1st Person: Easy! Just take off that –er on
•
the end and leave the rest to us.
• Regarder: Ok, let’s give it a go!

removed his –er, and now reappears, wearing only

what we have given you is a
•
Present Tense for all your kind. Go
•
to your -er brothers and sisters, show
•
them what you have and share it
Conclusion
• So Regarder went to all his –er verb brothers
and sisters and told them what had happened
to him that day.
• From that day to this all regular –er verbs
share these subjects and endings for their

ever after
