ella- means “she”
Ud.- (ooh-stead) -means “you” (formal singular)
Use this “you” with an adult
Nosotros- means “we”
ellos- means “they” (masc.)
ellas- means “they” (fem.)
Uds.- (ooh-stead-dace)- means “you all”

1. Ser and Estar are two very important verbs in Spanish. They both
mean “to be.”
2. Other forms of the verb “to be” include: am, is, are, was, were.
3. In order to know which verb to use, we have to look at what the
sentence is trying to tell us.
4. There are 5 conjugations (forms) of Ser and 5 conjugations of Estar.

4. Nationality/Origin (She is American/She is from America)

When do I use Estar?
1. Temporary Conditions/Feelings (tired, busy, sick, sad, happy,

2. Location (The shirt is on the table)
3. Gerund (“-ing” on the end of a verb; walking, talking, singing)

La Hora (Time)
How do I tell time in Spanish?
1. Look at the minutes. If the minutes are from 0-30, just say the time as it is.
2. If the minutes are over 30, you must go to the next hour and subtract the
difference. You must also go up to the next hour.
3. If the minutes are right at 30, you can still say it as it is.
4. When telling time, 15 is not “quince”, it is “cuarto”
5. When telling time, 30 is not “treinta”, it is “ media”
6. use “y” after the hour if the minutes are 30 and under
7. use “menos” after the hour if the minutes are over 30
How do I start?
