Simple Present Tense/ have got and has got
•
‘Have got’ and ‘has got ‘have the same meaning as ‘have’.
*We use have/has got for
things we possess or own
I have got a car.
You have got a car.
He , She has got a car.
*To describe people , places ,
animals and things
It has got two windows.
She has got black hair.
*For families and people we
know.
They have got a son.
She has got a friend .
*With some expressions like
I have got a cold/ the flu/
A toothache/ a headache/ a
problem / a temperature
*We don’t use ‘have got’
when we want to talk about
something that happens
repeatedly .
With words such as ,oftenusually- sometimes - we prefer
to use ‘have with do/ does in
the negative and interrogative(
questions)
examples:
I often have headaches.
I sometimes have a cup of tea.
She doesn’t usually have a flu.
•We don’t use ‘have got’ in
short answers.
