Run-on sentences are when there are
two main clauses in one sentence with
out proper punctuation.
I ate
pie zombies gave me the pie.
This is an example of a run on
sentence. There is supposed to be a
comma in between pie and zombies.
The sentence is supposed to be;
I ate the pie. Zombies gave me the pie.
Comma Splice
• Comma splices are like run on sentences but
they have commas in them instead of periods.
For example
We packed snacks juice ice cream and
soda for the picnic.
The mistake in this sentence is that there is
supposed to be a comma in between the
words when they are being listed. This is the
correct way to write this sentence;
We packed snacks, juice, ice cream, and
soda for the picnic.
Sentence
articles
In this sentence it
shows how Ausjed
is an amazing boy.
Present tense
Present tense words
are used to show
what is happening in
the present.
For example speak can
be I am speaking.
There is usually a s or an
E.D at the end of each
verb for present tense.
You should have do your
homework last night.
This sentence should be:
You should have done
your homework last night.
Clauses
Independent
An independent clause is a
clause that can stand
alone.
Ausjed Studied in
the library for
his exam.
The sentence above is an
example of an independent
clause.
Dependent
A Dependent clause is a
clause that cannot stand
alone but has to be
connected to a
independent clause.
Try something else, if you
don’t succeed.
The bolded part is the
dependent clause, and the
regular part is the
independent clause.
Subject verb agreement
In a sentence a subject and a verb should either
be singular or plural.
These rules do not apply to verbs that do not
have helping verbs.
If the subject is singular then the verb will end
with an s. If the subject is plural than the verb
will not end with an s.
Subject pronoun
agreement
A singular pronoun must replace a singular
noun.
A plural pronoun must replace a plural
noun.
No body knows how chocolate is
healthy for their bodies.
Instead of their bodies it should be his/her
body.
Semicolon
Apostrophe
A semicolon is used in
place of a period
when the
conjunction is
missing.
The apostrophe is
placed in the spot
where the letter s is
missing. The
apostrophe is also
used to show
possession.
Possession: The boy’s
hat
Call me tomorrow; I
will help you only
then.
Homophones
Homophones are two words that
sound the same but they have
different meanings.
For example:
I scream for Ice cream.
I scream and ice cream sound the same but they are
different words. I scream means that someone is
shouting, and ice cream means the food or dessert ice
cream. Also dessert and desert. Dessert is an appetizer
and desert is a place.
