Present Simple
We use the Present Simple Tense to talk
about:

• Routines
• Permanent States
AFFIRMATIVE FORM

They work
The only form that is different is the 3rd
person singular(he, she, it), where we add
-s.
Exceptions:
 consonant + -y > -ies: Carry – Carries
 verbs ending in -o: Go – Goes
 verbs ending in –sh: Wash – Washes
 verbs ending in –ch: Watch – Watches
 verbs ending in -s / -x > -es: Pass – Passes

OF ‘-S’ IN THE 3rd PERSON
The ending “-s” in the 3rd person singular :
 /s/: after strong / voiceless sounds
 /z/: after weak / voiced sounds
 / z/ when the verb ends in one of these sounds:
