Grammar Rules- Clauses
• There are two types of clauses: Independent
Clauses and Dependent Clauses.
• Independent clauses do not have any special
punctuation.
• Dependent Clauses are separated by
commas unless they come at the end of
sentence.
Clauses- Independent Clauses
• An independent clause is a series of words
that has a subject and a verb and expresses a
complete thought.
• Independent clauses are complete sentences
and can stand on their own.
– EXAMPLE: The students are talking loudly.
Clauses- Dependant
• A dependant clause is a series of words that
has a subject and/or verb but does not
express a complete thought.
– EXAMPLE1: While talking in the room, the
students
– EXAMPLE2: The boy, after speaking with
your mother,
– EXAMPLE3: that once belonged to my
grandmother.
