Adjectives and Adverbs
Adjectives
• An adjective is a word used to
modify a noun or a pronoun.
• Adjectives answer the questions:
“What kind”
“ Which One”
“ How many or
How much”
Proper Adjectives
• A proper adjective is formed from a
proper noun.
Examples: I like Chinese food.
We saw a Shakespearean
drama.
I bought an Irish-knit sweater.
Predicate Adjectives
• A predicate adjective follows a
linking verb and refers back to
the subject.
Examples: Her eyes are blue.
The sky is clear.
The ocean waves are
rough.
Find the adjectives in the

• The actor has a powerful voice.
• You seem nervous and tense
today.

ADVERBS
• AN ADVERB MAY MODIFY A
VERB, AN ADJECTIVE, OR
ANOTHER ADVERB.
• ADVERBS ANSWER THE
QUESTIONS “WHEN, WHERE,
WHY, HOW, AND TO WHAT
EXTENT”
• Many times an adverb will end in “ly”
• Remember the words “ no, not and
never” are considered adverbs.
• Examples:
I can not hear you.
She draws well.
