The Future Tense
In English
We form the future tense by using the word will
before a verb: We will play tomorrow.
We also use the phrase “ going to” before a verb
to express what will happen in the future : We
are going to play tomorrow
What we already know in Spanish
• You have already learned to refer to future
events by using “ ir + a + infinitive” to say “
going to”
• Ex: Voy a jugar mañana. I am going to play
tomorrow.
• Vamos a comer en el restaurante mañana. We
are going to eat in the restaurant tomorrow.
Use ir + a + infinitive

The new way
• You can add the following endings to the
infinitive of the verb to say you will do
something.

Same endings for all verbs
• All verbs have the same endings in the future
tense
• Endings are added to the entire infinitive
• Many endings have accent marks
