In the following sentences, people are being told what to do.
To express NECESSITY or OBLIGATION, the French use a verb form called the
SUBJUNCTIVE.
In the sentences below, the verbs in heavy print are in the subjunctive.

It is necessary that you drive well.
(You have to drive well.)
Il faut que je mette ma ceinture
de sécurité.
It is necessary that I fasten my seat belt.
(I have to fasten my seat belt.)

The SUBJUNCTIVE is a verb form that occurs frequently in French. It is
used after certain verbs and expressions in the construction:
VERB OR EXPRESSION + que + SUBJECT + SUBJUNCTIVE VERB …
Il faut

Paul
+ réponde à la question.
The subjunctive is always introduced by que.
