3. The Odyssey: Ulysses & Penelope
The Odyssey: Ulysses & Penelope
The original Odyssey is Ulysses’ adventure and struggles through
the Aegean Sea, as he was returning home after fighting for
Greece against the city of Troy in the Trojan War. His loving wife
Penelope represents faithfulness as she has to resist aggressive
suitors who want to take Ulysses place as king during his absence.
Ulysses represents strength, courage and determination.
Ulysses faces the Cyclops, Sirens, Circe,
and other Greek mythology figures
Sirens, luring sailors to their deaths
These nymphs had the power of charming by their song all who heard them, so that mariners
were impelled to cast themselves into the sea to destruction.
Ulysses returns home to Penelope and
sends the suitors away
