Each riding elects a Member of Parliament (MP) to represent them in
the House of Commons every 3-5 years.
• Canada is a “constitutional monarchy”
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is our Head of State. HM appoints a
Governor General to exercise her powers as head of state.

their own assemblies.
1832: Newfoundland elects its own assembly.
