What is this
The Processor
Think of the processor as the brain of
the computer. The processor speed
is an indicator of how fast the brain
can make things happen.
What is this
Network Card
The Network Card provides the connection
from the computer to the Network and
Internet.
What is this
SIMMS CHIP
System Internal Memory Module
The SIMMS chips are what provide the
computers instant memory or Random
Access Memory (RAM). This allows the
computer to complete procedures without
requiring any moving parts.
What is this
Hard Disk Drive
The HDD is comparable to the computers
stomach. It is the main storage device. It
holds all the software and most of the
created data files. The larger the capacity
of the hard drive … the more programs you
can load on to the computer.
What is this
CD-ROM DRIVE
This the Compact Disk Read Only Memory
storage device. Music and program data files
can be stored and accessed from this device.
The faster the CD-ROM Drive spins, the
faster the information can be processed and
accessed. This speed is noted by the Xfactor… 55X speed is fast!
What is this
CD-ROM KEY
Use a large heavy duty paperclip and bend it into
this shape. If the CD Drive loses power or is
unable to open, this little tool could help push the
door open. Insert the point into the little hole on
the front of the CD door and push. The door will
open enough to pull it the rest of the way.
What is this
Multi-media Sound Card
This card fits into the side board that
connects to the mother board. It provides
the interface with the speakers,
microphone, and audio input to your PC.
What is this
Processor Fan
The processor fan is located on the
mother board and positioned to blow air
across the processor. This keeps the hot
running Pentium processors from over
heating.
What is this
3 ½” Floppy Disk Drive
This is a storage and input device. It holds
the 3 ½” diskette and allows information to
be copied to and from the computer.
What is this
Power Supply
This box splits off the power to all
components of the computer. The power
cord from the wall is plugged into this box.
What is this
Mother Board
The mother board is a printed circuit card.
It holds the transistors and chips that guide
the computing process of the computer.
It also holds and powers the memory chips,
processor, and component cards.
What is this
CMOS Battery
Computer Memory Operating System Battery
This little quarter-sized lithium battery
holds the time, date, and configuration of
the computer. When the computer is
powered on the system checks to make
sure that all the components are working.
All the components, tool
kit, and computer case are
shown here.
Can you identify each of the
components?
On a piece of paper name as many as you can and
tell what each does.
