Ceramic components of
Engine
 Diesel fuel injectors
 Turbo charge rotors
 PSS glow plugs
 Rocker arm tips
 Valves
 Swirl Chambers
Advantages Of The Ceramic
Engine
 Temperature

A ceramic cylinder will operate at the
highest temperature combustion of 3000K.
 Efficient

The low friction ceramic doesn’t need to
cool the engine walls. This also means that
no part of the energy available from the
fuel is wasted to heat the atmosphere.
Examples of Ceramic Materials
 Silicon nitride
 used in engines and as a semiconductor in
transistors
 Boron carbide

used in some helicopter and tank armor.
 Ferrite

used in the core of electrical transformers.
 Uranium oxide
 used as fuel in nuclear reactors.
Other Applications Of
Ceramics
 Drilling
