SPARC
 RISC microprocessor originally designed by Sun Microsystems
 SPARC processor contains as many as 128 general purpose
registers
 The UltraSPARC IV has a clock frequency of 1.05 – 1.2 GHz and a
16 MB L2 cache
Intel Xeon MP
 Intel NetBurst® Microarchitecture with 400 MHz system bus
 Hyper-Threading Technology: Hardware support for multi-threaded server
applications
 Rapid Execution Engine
 Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2)
 Integrated Level 3 Cache (4MB, 2MB, or 1MB)
Intel Itanium 2
 Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing (EPIC)
6MB L3 integrated cache, 256KB L2 cache, 32KB L1 cache
Enhanced Machine Check Architecture (MCA) with extensive Error
Correcting Code (ECC)
Floating point architecture: Speeds up complex calculations
Target software segments: Databases, High Performance Computing,
Security Transactions, Software Engineering and Network Edge
MIPS
 MIPS designs are used in SGI's computer product line, embedded
systems, Windows CE devices, and Cisco routers.
 The Nintendo 64 console, Sony PlayStation2 console use MIPS
processors.
 The latest MIPS processor has a core frequency of 600 MHz a
computer bus speed of 200 MHz an a L2 cache of 8 MB
AMD Opteron
 AMD64 Core
 Simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing capabilities

Hyper Transport Technology
Cray, Inc. announced that they will create a supercomputer using 10,000
AMD Opteron processors which will have a theoretical peak performance of
40 TFlops
G5
The PowerPC G5 microprocessor has over 58 million transistors on it and
it incorporates IBM's 90 nanometer fabrication process.
The processor is manufactured with SOI technology, and IBM's additive-copper
to be used in chip wiring.
The G5 64-bit processor has a RAM capacity of eight gigabytes.
G5 has a "superscalar, superpipelined" execution core that can handle up to
216 in-flight instructions, and uses a 128-bit, 162-instruction SIMD unit.
Virginia Tech built a super computer using 1100 G5 dual processors!!!

Conclusion
 This processors are generally used in graphic applications and in
complex computing methods.
 Processors like Apple’s G5 made it possible to create a super
computer at a relatively low price.
 RISC architecture is faster than CISC
