Technological Forum
14 September 2016
Technological Forum is a new, open forum for students and staff at the Faculty of
Technology in Porsgrunn, with varied and hopefully engaging topics within
education, research, and development.
The aim is to contribute to the development of the academic community at the
university college.
The meetings will consist of introductions followed by a debate where the
audience may participate actively.
There are two meetings per semester. Coffee and tea are served.
The organizing committee consists of associate professor Joachim Lundberg,
researcher Ali Ghaderi, project manager Robert Immerstein, student Marius
Ystad, and docent Finn Aakre Haugen.
Topic of the meeting 14 September 2016:
How to convert organic waste to
valuable products - and why?
• Greve Biogas and The Magic Factory (at Tønsberg), by assistant
manager Ivar K. Sørby.
• On-farm small scale biogas, by chief researcher Jon Hovland, Tel-tek.
• Production of high quality organic fertilizer from cow manure in a
biorefinery aspect, by farmer and agronomist Knut Vasdal, Foss farm,
Skien.
Ivar Kopperud Sørby
Background from agriculture, self-taught in the biogas field.
Engaged in his own private consulting company that has been a
research partner in several value-chain and climate-benefit
projects with NMBU, Nibio, Tel-Tek and HiT, with
Østfoldforskning as executive partner. He has been engaged in
the project for developing the Magic Factory from the start in
2009. He has been a member of the project team that has built,
started, and now is operating the plant since february this year.
He has been responsible for the chain between the factory and
the agriculture in the area.
Jon Hovland
M.Sc in chemical engineering / applied biotechnology from
NTNU. Worked with environmental technology within industry,
oil and gas, and agriculture. Since 1995 worked with biogas
technology together with prof. Rune Bakke. Been at Tel-Tek since
2008, with biogas, renewable energy and carbon capture and
storage.
Knut Vasdal
Civil Agronomist NLH 1986, ring leader FABIO 1986-1990, owns
and operates Foss farm in Skien since 1990 as a organic dairy.
Since 2010, research and development in the processing of cow
manure, among others in collaboration with USN, Porsgrunn
