FP1306 COST Action “Valorization of lignocellulosic biomass side streams for sustainable production of chemicals, materials & fuels
using low environmental impact technologies”
Third MC Meeting & Second Workshop, Dubrovnik 4th – 6th April, 2016
FIRST CIRCULAR AND CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Dear colleagues,
You are cordially invited to participate in the second Workshop in the frame of the COST Action FP1306 “Valorization of lignocellulosic
biomass side streams for sustainable production of chemicals, materials & fuels using low environmental impact technologies”
to be held in Dubrovnik, Croatia on April, 4-6, 2016.
The Workshop is addressed to scientists and experts from industry and academia who are active in seeking alternative methodologies for
the production of materials, fuels and chemicals using low environmental impact technologies and greener methodologies. Emphasis will
be placed on the utilization of lignocellulosic biomass which is a highly promising feedstock with a significant potential to be converted into
useful end products.
President of the Organizing Committee
Prof.Mladen Brnčić
Scientific Scope
The scientific scope of the Workshop is in accordance with the objectives of the COST Action FP1306 which aims to develop a solid European
multidisciplinary network able to provide a range of innovative alternatives to the valorization of lignocellulosic residues to chemicals, fuels and materials
making use of environmentally sound protocols from pretreatment/fractionation to conversion to valuable end products.
The workshop will cover the following four general topics:
Topic 1: Pretreatment/fractionation of lignocellulosic biomass: hydrothermolysis (steam explosion, mild acid under hydrothermal conditions, Ultrasound,
High Hydrostatic Pressures etc.), use of novel solid acid catalysts with tuned properties and enhanced hydrothermal stability for the hydrothermal
(pre)treatment.
Topic 2: Valorization of hemicellulose derived streams (xylan/xylose): selective hydrolysis of hemicellulose, catalytic depolymerization, novel solid-acid
catalysts, biocatalysis.
Topic 3: Valorization of lignin derived streams: selective preparation of high value chemicals (i.e. phenols), (bio)catalytic processes in the valorization of
lignin (catalytic hydrogenolysis, fast pyrolysis, hydrodeoxygenation);
Topic 4: Techno-economical perspectives: predictable benefits of the valorization of waste biomass streams; promising and competitive processes in the
chain: feedstock processing– fuels-chemicals-materials.
Call for abstracts
All participants wishing to present a contribution are requested to submit a one-page abstract including figures and/or tables, using a template provided.
Abstracts should be submitted in electronic format as an attachment in pdf-format via e-mail to [email protected] by February 26th, 2016. The
workshop Scientific Committee will select abstracts until March 10th, 2016. All accepted abstracts will be published in the Book of Abstracts, which will be
distributed at the Workshop.
