• The Nativity Scene important why?
• Rome controlled Judah, but allowed them remain
independent as long as the recognized Roman
authority. Eventually, Roman assumed full control.
• The Jews hoped for a savior. What type of savior?
• How was Jesus life from age 30 onward?
New material
• Jesus claimed to be sent by God and he was his son.
• The only records of Jesus and his works come from
the writings of his followers (the Apostles),
specifically from the Gospel.
• The more he preached, the greater his popularity.
Many Jews thought he would be the savior that
would free them from Roman rule.
• Romans & Jewish leaders worried. Why?
• Jews because he claimed to be a peace-maker not a
military leader.
• The Romans because there were already too many
rebellions in this area.
New material
• Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem by the Jews.
They laid palm leaves beneath his feet as a sign of
honor (Palm Sunday).
• The Jewish Leadership Jesus was committing
“Blasphemy.” Explain the term Blasphemy.
• The Romans claimed he defied or challenged Roman
authority. How? Was that true that he was a threat?
• The reality was that yes he was a threat. He was
uniting people and having them change their views
of life and relationships.
New material
• The Romans captured him and planned to crucify
him, but Pilate offered the Jews the choice to give
him freedom or a common criminal. The Jewish
Leaders urged the crowd to allow the criminal to be
free not Jesus.
• Why? What changed from laying palm leaves before
him to crucifixion?
• Jesus motives versus what the Jews wanted at that
time?
New material
• Following a typical pre-Sabbath meal, Jesus was
turned over to the Romans. First beaten, then Pilate
allowed the Jewish Leaders to have him killed.
New material
• Jesus knew he would be crucified, it was part of
scripture. He felt he had to die to save the world
from evil.
• He also knew with his death, his message would not
only remain but would grow. Those that followed
him would be called Christians. His followers felt
they evolved from Judaism.
• Paul – initially an enemy he turned and he preached
Jesus’s word. He preached and taught that this new
following welcomed Jews and non-Jews.
