Islamic Adviser
Babar Chaudhry
AsslamuAlaikum!. I have had the opportunity to be introduced to
Arrahman Arraheem Network during an extremely testing time in my life.
Born in a traditional Muslim family, I learned the basic fundamentals of
my Deen.
All was going well in my life till I entered college. During
my years in college, I met with students of all faiths, ethnic
backgrounds and practices who questioned me about Islam.
In my sophomore year, I was part of an interfaith project
where people asked me about my beliefs. I couldn’t provide
them with coherent answers. This was the turning point in
my life when I asked myself, how much do I really know
about Islam? How am I practicing without understanding?
How can I claim to practice the teachings of Al-Quran
without knowing them?
This is where I had the opportunity to listen to Babar Chaudhry’s lecture on “How to Read
Al-Quran.” This completely changed my life! I started attending his classes and was
surprised by the format of the lectures. For example, it is an open question-answer format
where I can ask anything related to my daily life, practice or confusion. Answers are
provided within the reference of ayats from Al-Quran and Ahadiths. So when I first started
reading Al-Quran, I asked the question “How do I know where I am standing in the sight of
Allah SWT?” Then Babar Sir showed me a reference from Al-Quran which I found very
surprising. In Chapter 21 Surah Al-Anbiya Ayat 10 Allah SWT says, “We have indeed sent
down to you a Book which deals with matters concerning yourselves, why don’t you
understand?” I found this ayat extremely compelling because Allah SWT is telling me that
Al-Quran contains guidance for matters concerning ourselves. This is the first time I had
read Al-Quran with understanding. At first I used to read Al-Quran only in Arabic to
gain sawab but now I am understanding the message as well. Babar Sir gave me the
example that if a person from a diverse background (ex. French, German, Chinese) needed
guidance or an answer to any curiosity from Al-Quran. In which language is he/she
supposed to read? I replied obviously in their own language in which they understand.
Babar Sir further explained that guidance is attainted through
understanding and only then can we find out what Allah (SWT) wants from
us. He also quoted a saying of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is that “The
best amongst you is the one who learns Al-Quran and teaches it to others.”
From that day forward, I vowed to myself to learn the teachings of Al-Quran
with understanding and practice them in my daily life. This is how I can
become a practicing Muslim.
I am highly thankful to Allah SWT and Babar Chaudhry as a teacher of
Arrahman Arraheem Network in providing this light, platform and
guidance to better understand and practice my Deen! After this I am
grateful to my mother who has supported me in my journey of becoming a
better Muslim.
