Introduction
• This slide show is about black holes and
other information for example, how black
holes are formed.
What is a black hole?
• A black hole is an area in space. The
black holes’ gravity field is so strong that
nothing can escape from inside it including
light. This is why they are black because
there is no light.
How is a black hole caused?
• Black holes are caused when a star
collapses inwards. The gravity is reversed
and is so strong that it pulls everything
near it into it. Everything that gets pulled
into a black hole never comes out.
How does a black hole affect the
world?
• A black hole does not affect the world we
live in but it affects the stars that are
around it in space. Black holes can pull
stars towards it and cause them to
explode. A black hole can destroy stars or
make them explode and make many more
stars.
Are black holes dangerous?
• There are “rogue” black holes in space.
They can be 1000 times the mass of the
sun in size. “Rogue” black holes are not
likely to hurt earth. There are more
dangerous things in our neighbourhood
that can hurt us!
Where is the closest black hole?
• Black holes are light years away.
Astronomers have found a star close to
earth called Cygnus x-1. Astronomers
think this star is orbiting a black hole. The
Cygnus x-1 is thought to be 8000 light
years from earth.
