Description

The swastika is one of
the most popular
symbols then and now
It used to be a very
famous sign until Adolf
Hitler made it infamous.
The swastika is a
equilateral cross with its
arms bent at right
angles all in the same
rotary direction.
Because of its
famousness it is used in
Buddhism and
Hinduism.
History

Nobody knows how the
swastika came about
there are some theories
but none are sure. The
earliest archaeological
evidence of a swastika motif dates from the
Upper Paleolithic period
(ca. 10,000 BCE) which
were carved on tusks etc.
Theories

Another explanation is
suggested by Carl Sagan
in his book Comet,
proposing that the symbol
was inspired by a comet
approaching Earth
closely enough that the
jets of gas streaming from
it, bent by the comet's
rotation, became visible.
This explanation has
found some adherents
among catastrophists
History

In his 1925 work Mein Kamph,
Adolf Hitler wrote that:I myself,
meanwhile, after innumerable
attempts, had laid down a final
form; a flag with a red
background, a white disk, and
a black swastika in the middle.
After long trials I also found a
definite proportion between the
size of the flag and the size of
the white disk, as well as the
shape and thickness of the
swastika.
Importance

This sign was very
important especially to
the Nazis because this
was their flag and they
used it to represent sun
power life strength and
good luck. For the Jews it
meant hate,
antisemitism (hate of
Jews), violence,
death, and murder.
Description

The star of David is a
Jewish symbol composed
of two overlaid triangles
that form a six-pointed
star. It appears on
synagogues tombstones
and the flag of Israel. The
six points symbolize God's
rule over the universe in
all six directions.
Description


There are many theories on
what the star is one of them
is Kabbalah teaches that G-d
created the world with seven
spiritual building blocks—His
seven emotional attributes.
Accordingly, the entire
creation is a reflection of
these seven foundational
attributes.
They are: Chesed
(Kindness), Gevurah
(Severity), Tiferet
(Harmony), Netzach
(Perseverance), Hod
(Splendor), Yesod
(Foundation) and Malchut

These attributes are divided into three
columns: right, center and left:
Gevurah
Tiferet
Chesed
Hod
Yesod
Netzach
Malchut
 Correspondingly, the Star of David contains
seven compartments—six peaks protruding
from a center
History

Originally, the Hebrew
name Magen David -literally "Shield of
David" -- poetically
referred to God. It
acknowledges that our
military hero, King
David, did not win by
his own might, but by
the support of the
Almighty. This is also
alluded to in the third
blessing after the
Haftorah reading on
Shabbat: "Blessed are
you God, Shield of
David."
History

A popular folk tale
etymology has it that the
Star of David is literally
modeled after the shield of
the young Israelite warrior
David, who would later
become King David. In order
to save metal, the shield was
not made of metal but of
leather spanned across the
simplest metal frame that
would hold the round shield:
two interlocking triangles. No
reliable historical evidence
for this etymology exists;
this theory is refuted by a
credible tradition that there
was a Menorah engraved
upon the shield which King
David used in wartime.
Importance

The star of David was
used by the Germans to
find out who were Jews
and to kill them but no
one knows why Hitler
ordered these killings.
For the Jews the star of
David is a sacred
because it was used by
King David. The
Germans they made the
Jews wear a yellow star
of David at their
clothing to make them
easily recognizable
