Volcanoes at plate
boundaries
Volcanoes(ready.gov)

A volcano is a mountain that opens
downward to a reservoir of molten rock
below the surface of the earth.

Plate boundaries
(volcanodiscovery.com)
During the past 40 years, a new model
has emerged and revolutionized Earth
sciences like perhaps none other than
before.
 The theory of plate tectonics is now wellestablished and forms the basis of our
current understanding

Distribution of active
volcanoes(geology.sdsu.edu)
Our planet is a dynamic planet
 It’s outer surface layer is broken many
tectonic plates which are in constant
motion relative to one another.

The types of plate boundaries(geology.com)
1.) Divergent boundary
-Divergent plate boundaries are locations where plates
are moving away from one another.
2.) Convergent boundary
- When continental and oceanic plates collide the thinner
and more dense oceanic plate is overridden by the thicker and
less dense continental plate.
3.) Transform boundary
- Transform faults can be distinguished from the typical
strike-slip faults because the sense of movement is in the
opposite direction.
