Tsunamis!!!
By. Emily Keenan,
Ronysha Green, and Michael
Purdy
How do tsunamis start?

Tsunamis start when
massive amounts of sea
water moves suddenly.
Also, an underwater
earthquake, volcanic
eruption, and ice falling
into the sea can cause
tsunami’s. Another
reason tsunami’s can
start is by movement of
the Tectonic Plates.
Tsunami Survival Kit!!






A important survival kit in case
a tsunami hits!!!
A first aid kit and any
necessary medicines
Enough food and water for at
least three days
A flashlight and radio with
extra batteries
Warm clothes, and blankets, or
sleeping bags.
Money, and important papers
such as passports, and drivers
licenses
Warnings of tsunamis
To escape a tsunami is basically a 50-50 chance due
To warnings. If you can see the warnings of sea level
Changing and water seeping off shore then you have a
Chance of surviving. If you see the tsunami coming then
You are most likely not going to make it, because the
tsunami
Moves so fast. Highly sophisticated tsunami-detecting
System was developed by the U.S National Oceanic
Atmospheric Administration. Features deep ocean
Assessment and Reporting of tsunami’s (DART) Sensors.
As a tsunami passes overhead the heart of the system is
bottom-pressure records that are anchored to the ocean
floor. They monitor water pressure and sea level. So
sensitive That they can detect the tiniest changes and
pressure. They Can also sense a rise in sea level of just
half a inch. When Sensing changes, relay the info to large
high-tech buoys that Float above them on the ocean
surface. The buoys have Global positioning system (GPS)
antennas mounted on top Transmit data to satellites which
also send signals to a Regional Warning Center.
Tsunami deaths and tragedy’s

Japan-3\11\11 deadly
tsunami death toll over
10,000 (est. 3/15/11)

On 12\26\04 a monster
tsunami struck dozens of
countries in the Indian
Ocean killing 250,000
Tsunamis have killed
millions!!!!

Tsunami warning signs!




A drop in sea level
Water is suddenly
sucked in towards
sea
Also check if fish are
flopping around dying
Check for ships
stranded with out
water in the sea
How do you react in a tsunami
situation

In a tsunami the best
way to act is calm. It
is good to stay calm
so you don’t over
react and faint or a
medical reason and
not being able to
move or escape.
What to do if caught in a disaster
Move to a mainland/higher ground quickly
 Stay away from all beaches

After a tsunami
 Stay away from debris in the water
 Save yourself not your possessions
