Geographical position
• New Zealand is an island
country in the southwestern
Pacific Ocean, at
approximately 1930 km
South-East of Australia.
Primary territory consists of
two islands, with the
appropriate title-the South
Island and North Island.
North and South Islands are
separated by the Cook
Strait. In addition, there are
61 other islands. The total
area is 268 680 km2.
The Climate Of New Zealand
• New Zealand's
climate varies from
warm subtropical in
the North of the
North Island, to cool
temperate in the
southern South; in
mountain areas the
harsh Alpine climate
prevails.
Rivers and Lakes
• New Zealand can rightly be
called a country of Lakes.
Volcanic, tectonic, glacial
lakes occupy a significant part
of its territory. The river
network on the Islands is very
dense, and due to the large
amount of rainfall, rivers are
flowing. The longest river in
the South Island and the
flowing within New Zealandthe Clutha River (322 km).
Animal world
• In New Zealand there is a
large number of nonflying birds. Kiwi bird,
covered with long brown
feathers, is widely known
and became a symbol of
New Zealand. It is
depicted on the emblem
of the country.

the anthem
• The flag of New Zealand was
formally proclaimed in May
22, 1902. The flag shows four
red five-pointed star,
symbolizing the geographical
situation of the country and
represents the brightest star
in the constellation of the
Southern Cross. The current
national anthem of New
Zealand was adopted in
November 21, 1977. The
hymn is also translated into
the Maori language.

Zealand is the official
symbol of New Zealand.
The coat of arms was
originally granted by King
George V in August 26,
1911, and the current
version was provided by
Queen Elizabeth II in
1956.
Population
• 4.26 million. The main
population-New
Zealanders (77%) came
from Europe, mainly
from the UK, active
settlement began in
the mid-19th century).
15% of Maori
(indigenous people),
8% are Asian,
Polynesian and
representatives of
other ethnic groups.
The capital and points of interest

Wellington-New Zealand's capital,
Wellington, is located at the
southern tip of the North Island. It
is the most southern capital city in
the world. In spite of its compact
size, Wellington is fill of attractions.
One of the most interesting
architectural complexes is the
Parliament, which consists of three
completely different buildings in
style. Wellington is the capital of
the country, here you can see the
Royal New Zealand Ballet, the New
Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the
New Zealand Opera company and
the national school of dance.
