 Hemorrhages of the leg (often inner thigh), result of
septicemia.
 Aeromonas hydrophila is the most common bacteria
know to cause red leg.
 Less common bacteria are Pseudomonas aeruginosa,
Proteus, Citrobacter, Salmonella, and Escherichia coli.
 Animal(s) may lose appetite and become weak or
lethargic.
 Hemorrhages may be the size of a pinpoint or very
large.
 Bacterial Cultures and sensitivities should be
performed on affected animals; proper antibiotics will
be determined from tests.
 The cause of the infection should be corrected
immediately, and affected animal(s) should be
separated and kept under careful watch.
