Lactobacillus and balance of
microbes
Acidosalus®
Lactobacillus and balance of
microbes



Lactobacillus is a
constituent part of the
commesal flora of the
dynamic gastrointestinal
system and the vagina
Colonization
immediately after birth
(through milk)
Balance  essence of
homeostasis
Fedorak et al., Curr Opin Gastro 20(2004)
Acidosalus®
Bacteria Lactobacillus sp.




Gram-positive bacteria of the Lactobacillaceae
family, which includes around 120 species
Commesal flora, but used also as a probiotic
Lactobacillus lactis, L. plantarum, L. rhamnosus,
L. bulgaricus, L. helveticus
L. acidophilus complex  dominant bacteria
(L. acidophilus, L. crispatus)
Acidosalus®
Probiotics are:


Live microorganisms which, when used in
the sufficient amount, have positive
healing effect on the host
Probiotics change the composition and
metabolic activity of the microflora or
affect the immune system, which has
positive effect on the host’s health

Acidosalus®

Protective in situ effect of Lactobacillus is
described through a series of
mechanisms:
Competition with pathogenic bacteria for receptors
 Coaggregationimpossible adherency of
pathogens
 Creation of antimicrobial substances: lactic and
acetic acid (pH), H2O2, diacetyl and bacteriocin:
lactacyd, acidophilucin, acidocin, acidophilin

Boris et al., Infect Immun 66 (1998)
Favourable therapeutic effect of
Lactobacillus:


Therapeutic effect presupposes peroral
use of live or lyophilized bacteria aiming at
colonization of the gastrointestinal system
(oral cavity, duodenum, small and large
intestine) or throat and oral cavity
Intravaginal instillation –local application
of live or lyophilized bacteria aiming at
colonization of the vaginal epithelium

Studies on beneficial effects of
Lactobacillus treatment

Vulvovaginitis
caused by candidas
or bacteria

Survey, 2003

Studies on beneficial effects of
Lactobacillus treatment

Infections of the gastrointestinal system :
Helicobacter pylori (ulcer)
Clostridium difficile (pseudomembranuous colitis)
Enteropathogenic bacteria (diarrhea)
Candida albicans
Rotaviruses
Infestation with the parasite Giardia lamblia

Changes in microbial flora after antibiotic
treatment, diarrhea and non-infectious diseases
(Morbus Crohn, and oth.)

Acidosalus®
Lactic preparation with minimally 1011/mL
live Lactobacillus acidophilus
Experiences with use of
Acidosalus®:

80 patients with infectious and
non-infectious diseases:
urogenital (60%)
gastrointestinal (20%):
upper respiratory sytem and
oral cavity (20%)
Acidosalus®
Application of Acidosalus® :

Depending on the
type and
localization of the
disease:


Peroral (regime):
Vaginal instillation
Application of Acidosalus® :
Why are laryngology and phoniatrics chosen?
• Interconnections of pathology of the gastrointestinal vs.
respiratory system
• GERD and GLRD as obvious examples of effects of the reflux
mechanism from the gastrointestinal to the respiratory
(phonatory) system
• Occurence of certain pathological conditions which cannot be
eradicated neither by conventional nor surgical therapy
GERD and GLRD
Papillomatosis (HPV) of the larynx, hypopharinx, pharinx,
oral cavity
Fungal infections in these areas
Possibility of objective digital documentation
Monitoring of patients in laryngology
and phoniatrics:
1.Subjective
changes
2.Objective: digital
endoscopic images
and video clips
Monitoring of patients:
Subjective changes
(a questionnaire,
but non-specific)
 Objective changes

GERD
(gastroesophageal reflux
disease)
GLRD (gastrolaryngeal
reflux disease)
GLRD or GLRD and HD
Possible consequences of GERD or GLRD
Back granulomas
OBJECTIVE TESTS ( digital endoscopic
images)
Various degrees of back laryngitis
OBJECTIVE TESTS
digital endoscopic images before
and after therapy(8 out of 10 patients)
Before ARth and AS
After ARth and AS
Only AR th.

OBJECTIVE TESTS
Acidosalus only
Before Acidosalus
After Acidosalus
OBJECTIVE TESTS
Colonization of fungi at the base of the
tongue
Digital endoscopic image
before AS (resistance to
antimycotic)
Digital endoscopic image
after AS
OBJECTIVE TESTS
Human papillomavirus of the larynx and hypopharinx

Widening of use


Incorporation of
Acidosalus® into
bases:
Application in
dermatology
Application in dermatology
Widening of research and use
Further research
• Virosalus R in the base of goat
milk with addition of garlic
•Pekisalus in the base of fresh
beetroot juice with addition of
garlic
Recommendations
Conclusions

Based on the testings of
80 patients, it can be
concluded that use of the
lactic probiotic preparation
Acidosalus® with bacteria
Lactobacillus acidophilus
significantly improved the
patients’ health condition
at the level of subjective
positive changes and with
no side effects
CONCLUSIONS
•Using techniques of objective test evaluation for parts of
the respiratory, gastrointestinal and phonatory systems,
it is possible with great accuracy to monitor effects after
the therapeutic treatment
•These are techniques of digital visualization in both static
and dynamic form, including slow motion, and these are
executed at the Phoniatrics Centre of the ORL CLINIC
Šalata, the Reference Centre of the Croatian Health
Ministry
•The authors of this research gave such methodology
priority over the questionnaire in this review
Acidosalus®
CONCLUSIONS
Although the number of subjects should be increased, the
presented objective clinical documentation shows the
effects of Acidosalus® in cases of complex clinical
conditions which result from disturbed local
or overall immunity of the organism, i.e. biological balance.
PROBIOTICS ARE PRECISELY THAT WHICH
RESTORES THE BALANCE
