FIELD SANITATION –
MILITARY OPERATIONS AND
DEPLOYMENTS
SCOPE
• Introduction - Field Sanitation ?
• Responsibilities
• Ablution Facilities
– General aspects
• Historically, in every
conflict the United States
has been involved in,
only 20 percent of all
hospital admissions have
been from combat
injuries. The other 80
percent have been from
disease and non-battle
injuries.
• Infectious diarrhoea results from contamination of water and
food by bacteria, viruses, and parasites.
• Water- and food-borne diarrheal diseases are of particular
concern to the military
– spread to large numbers of service members simultaneously
= disastrous consequences for combat readiness
