Causes of Lung Cancer
• Tobacco use, such as smoking cigarettes and chewing tobacco, is the leading cause of lung
cancer amongst adults between the ages of 35 and 55.
• Over 25% of social smokers (those who smoke one pack a week) develop lung cancer
before the age of 50.
• “Pregnant mothers who smoke increase the chances that their unborn children will
develop lung disease or cancer by 80%.” (pg. 52)
• Exposure to second-hand smoke can endanger even non-smokers.

NOTES:
• Remember that paraphrasing means to summarize a source’s (author’s)
words AND ideas by putting them into your own words. Ask yourself, How
would I explain this information to my friends or family?
Failure to paraphrase effectively is considered plagiarism.
• When quoting someone from a source who is not the author of the source,
remember to include that person’s credentials (what makes him/her an
expert?).
