Network usage
Peer-to-peer file sharing (e.g.
BitTorrent, LimeWire) is frowned upon and
may be forbidden by your college or
department.
Non-permitted P2P activity may result in
disconnection or a fine or even a visit to
the Proctors

Remote Access
Remote Access uses a separate password, NOT your SSO password

Eduroam service
– An international federation of academic institutions which
allows its users to visit other organizations and obtain WiFi
access using the same username and password as they would use at
their home institution.
– Quick set-up: https://cat.eduroam.org
– You may need to use VPN over Eduroam to access some services
– Do login as [email protected]
– the @ox.ac.uk allows you to connect at other Universities
VPN service
– Needed for use of OWL, the Oxford Wireless LAN
– Used for access to some resources that are restricted to the
University network when your computer is not directly connected
to the OU network. e.g. on a commercial broadband service or via
Eduroam (below).

Each user is allowed 100MB of web space

OxFile: Large File
Exchange Service
Sometimes you want to transfer a file to
someone but it is too large to attach to an
email or to put into your personal web
space.
OxFile is the University’s “DropBox” service

Limits: 25 gigabytes per file, 40 gigabytes per
folder
