What is the e-Field Note?
S An electronic system for writing, storing, organizing, and
displaying Field Note (FN) data
S Consists of a dedicated handheld app to efficiently record
and search FN data and a versatile, web-based database for
managing and viewing data
S Residents, Preceptors, and site administrators (Site Directors,
Site Coordinators, A&E Site Faculty) will have individual
accounts to use the system
Why Use e-Field Notes?
 Easier recording, storing, and managing of FN data
 Residents can track their performance in required
competency areas
 Preceptors can use accumulated FN data to help inform
summative assessments (ie. ITARs)
 Site Directors can use accumulated FN data to help
support Periodic Review meetings with Residents
What’s different than what we’ve
been doing with paper Field Notes?
All FNs will now be recorded electronically (any paper FNs
received will be entered manually by Residents)
2. Several revisions have been made to the FN format
3. e-FN data is stored electronically for easier managing,
organizing, and viewing
1.
What’s the same as what we’ve been

all:
