Methods of
Transportation
Overview
• There are many different methods of transportation within the Victorian
Era.
• For example, some common forms of transportation include biking,
walking, and the use of horse drawn carriages.
• Although there are many different types of carriages during this time period,
they were the main mode of transportation throughout most places.
• However, this form of transportation was somewhat slow, and the horses
also needed to be taken care of along the way.
Summary (websites)
• The bicycle was invented in the 1880s and the original design had a larger
front wheel but a shorter back wheel.
• Walking was a normal aspect of everyday life, although there were more
efficient means of getting around (such as the carriage).
• Carriages were limited to the upper class and the wealthy, and so anyone who
rode in one was perceived as above the common/working class.
• During the end of the 19th century, the idea of the train was becoming more
developed
