Getting started
• Once you are registered on your programme you will
automatically be given a Library Record and an
Athens Account
– Make sure you know your University User ID and password
(to login to email, Selfcare, Sunspace etc.)
– Check your University Email Account to obtain your Athens
username and password
– Visit the Library Web Site and work through the Distance
Learner Online Induction
Access to E-Resources
• What is an Athens Account?
• A username and password unique to you that
authenticates you as a University of Sunderland student
• Your Athens Account enables access to the library’s
electronic resources (such as full text journals and ebooks)
• It is sent to your University Email Account within a week of
your registration with the University

University User ID and Password!

• Use Journal Search to locate journal articles

Search all course databases or subject specific databases
Basic or advanced searching
Save your results
• Use Journal Search to browse publications
• Log into Journal Search with your University User ID
and Password
• When you want to download or open an article you
may be prompted to enter your Athens Account

• Access e-books using the Library Catalogue
What is the Document Delivery Service
• We will try to obtain copies of articles for you
if they are not available within our electronic
subscriptions
• We will photocopy from our own stock and fax or post
it to you
• We will request documents from the British Library
through Inter-Library Loan
