A new member installed and involved in a sincere,
respectful and friendly manner will feel a sense of
ownership in your Club and Community.

- Secretary-Treasurer Submits a “Club Roster Adjustment”
This may be done on-line @ www.optimistleaders.org
- Keep a supply of New Member Kits on hand
- Install new members quickly with enthusiasm
- Award the “sponsor lapel pin” at a
separate time with pride and honor!

The Installation . . .
PRESIDENT or MEMBERSHIP CHAIR – Today we welcome <NAME> as a new
member. This occasion marks the beginning of your opportunity to join through
fellowship and friendship of our Club. We invite you to share our philosophy as
expressed in our “Optimist Creed” and assist in “Bringing Out the Best in Kids.”
SPONSOR or MEMBERSHIP CHAIR – Introduce the new member with a friendly
2-minute biography.
PRESIDENT leads member pledge - “I ____NAME ______ , / hereby pledge /
that I will do my best / to live by our Optimist Creed. / I will give my time
and talents / as generously as possible / to support my Club. / I hereby
dedicate myself / to Bringing Out the Best in Kids / and to Optimist
International.”
President responds, “By the authority vested in me, I hereby declare you have all
rights and privileges as a member of our Optimist Club (Name).
Present the New Member Kit and explain some of the items in it. Affix member pin.
Extend handshakes of welcome. Invite audience applause.

After the induction…
• Spend some time telling the new member about the resources and
opportunities available to club members. Show them our Website
www.optimist.org.
• Option: Every few months invite new members to an orientation
reception at a member’s home. (Explain activities, structure, etc.)
• Discover their interests by interview, Membership Application or
Interest Finder. Ask them to serve on a committee of their interest.
Present the new member SPONSOR with a “Sponsor Lapel Pin” in a
very special presentation appreciating their contribution to the Club!
