Welcome to
THE RESISTORS
Wonderful World of
Weird Science
ENTER IF YOU DARE…
LUC - LIGHT
Shine a beam of white light on a prism it breaks it up
into
RED ORANGE YELLOW GREEN BLUE INDIGO & VIOLET
This is called
DISPERSION
Spin the colored wheel around
The different colors turn to white
White is a mix of loads of different colors
1. Place some black paper in a
dish full of water
2. Drop some clear nail polish onto
the waters surface
3. Leave it for a few minutes
4. Gently lift the paper out of the
water & let it dry
5. Hold the paper in some light &
view your rainbow
UPSIDE-DOWN





When you look at something it
reflects onto the back of your eye
Only problem is it is upside-down
this is called INVERSION
Good thing your brain can flip the
image the right way up
This pinhole camera (a black
painted cup with some
greaseproof paper and a tiny
hole) can demo inversion
The flame appears upside down
on the greaseproof screen
Ever wished you could
see tiny objects?
A microscope will let u
see tiny things
You can check out little
creepy crawlys
Or even zone in on your
own cheek cell
A microscope lens will
enlarges things
This is known as
magnification what a
magnificent machine
Crooke’s Radiometer
Place it in sunlight
or shine a lamp at it……
Wooooh I’m dizzy look at the
vanes turning like Crazy
The light energy gets
changed into kinetic energy
Kinetic energy gets things
moving & grooving.
SONIA - SOUND
Tired of wasting money on mobile credit ? Make a string telephone & call
your mates for free. Here’s How:
Pierce a hole in the base of 2 plastic cups
Thread a long piece of string through the holes
Tie a granny knot on the inside of the cups
Pull the string tight and get dialing
Your voice will travel in a
along the string 2 your mates ear
You will see the string vibrate cause sound travels in a
Sing your own ring-tone go on give it a go……..

PLACE 2 OPEN UMBRELLAS
FACING EACHOTHER 6
METERS APART
PUT A TICKING CLOCK
NEAR THE MIDDLE OF THE
STICK HANDLE OF 1
UMBRELLA

THE CLOCK WILL BE
HEARD AT THE SAME
POSITION ON THE OTHER
UMBRELLA
IT GETS REFLECTED AND
BOUNCES ACROSS
•Small children & animals can
hear high pitched sounds better
than adults.
•People who are blind normally
have a sharper sense of hearing.
•Your ears never stop growing as
you get older.
•Ultrasound scans let us see
unborn babies in the womb.
DIG - ICT
COMPUTERS & SCIENCE
•Scientists often give presentations to
audiences using computers to show
tables, charts, pictures & graphs.
•We can store scientific data & results on
computers to keep them safe.
•Computers help us carry out statistical
analysis on experiments.
•Computers help Scientists research
information on topics via the internet.
•Scientist all over the world can share
theories, results & ideas by
communicating through computers
Invisible Ink
• Here’s a good experiment
to do around pancake
Tuesday
• Dip a cotton bud into some
lemon juice
• Write a secret message on
some paper let it dry
• Ur message will have
disappeared like Magic
• Blast it dry with a
hairdryer & it reappears
• The acidic lemon weakens
the paper & heat makes it
turn brown
You can make soap from: 125ml oil , 100ml water & 20g sodium hydroxide
Pour the oil & water into a beaker and stir it
Add the sodium hydroxide & keep stirring
It can be jazzed up by adding some smelly oils or perfume
UMMM smells great but I wouldn’t use it on ur body
Sodium hydroxide is corrosive & could burn your skin oouuccchhh
Take a can of Coke & a
dirty penny
Drop in the dirty
penny.....fizzzzzzz
Days later BLING it’s
sparkling
Citric & Phosphoric acid
in Coke removes the
stains
•Hard water contains more
minerals & doesn’t make suds
easily
•Test different types of water
to see if they are hard
•Add soap flakes to different
water samples
•The ones that don’t make
suds are hard as it traveled
over rocks like limestone &
sucked up some minerals like
calcium

Electricity & Magnetism
►
Want to make your own
battery?
►
Its easy to make a
►
Place 5 cent & 10 cent coins in a
pile (alternate them)
Put some tissue soaked in salty
water between the different
coins
Hook up some wire & a
voltmeter & your powered up
Build it higher by using more
coins from the back of your
couch!

You need: 2 Lemons, 2 pennies, 2 paper clips,3 pieces of copper
wire, a scissors, a knife, a Voltmeter, a battery-operated digital
clock, a pencil & paper
1. Clip a paperclip 2 a wire & hook a penny to a second wire.
2. Attach another penny to 1 end of the third wire & a paperclip
to the other end
3. Squeeze 2 lemons & make 2 small cuts in the skins of both an
inch apart.
4. Put the paper clip that is attached to the wire & the penny into
1 of the cuts down into the juicy part of the lemon.
5. Stick the penny in a hole in the other lemon.
6. Put the other paper clip into the second hole of the lemon with
the penny.
7. Then put the last penny into the last open hole.
8. Connect the free ends of the wires to the terminals of the
digital clock.
The lemons make enough electricity 2 turn on the clock.
Chemical reactions between the steel paper clip & the lemon
juice & between the copper penny & the lemon juice push
electrons through the wires. The metals are different so
electrons get pushed harder in 1 direction. Electrons flow
around in a circle and come back 2 the lemon battery. This is
called an electric current.
• Want to plot a magnetic
field ?
• Put a magnet under some
paper
• Sprinkle iron fillings on
top of the paper
• The iron will map out a
magnetic field
• North, East, South or West
u know The Resistors r the
Best!!!!
Build this shaky hand game
it’s a simple circuit
made from a buzzer, a
battery, wire, insulated wire,
a shoe box & sticky tape.
Try moving the looped wire
along the bendy wire
If the two wires touch
your not that steady and the
bulb lights up: TRY AGAIN
