Governmental combating against illegal and employment. Companies are forced to register their workers officially, wage costs
increase . Additional there is still a shortage of qualified manpower in the Bahia region due to attraction by the cities .

Quality: The quality has improved: For some years technically optimized plantations have appeared.
Consequence is an increased quality standard demand. Producers develop strategic partnerships with
farmers who produce piassava appropriately cultured and pay fair wages for good quality. To encourage
entrepreneurship, the government offers alliances with research centres, universities and funding agencies.

Availability: The supply can be ensured. The development of mechanization ensures the productivity and
the growers will invest in their production when there is sufficient demand for their material.

Prices: The price has been stable for the last 2 years until now but it is expected that they will rise by at
least 5% due to following factors:

too low freight rate.
Quality: Stagnant production volumes; the whole manufacturing process is still carried out manually (->
slow-going, physically hard work). Nevertheless it will remain the main kind of gaining the fibre as
mechanization efforts had nearly no success.
The finishing requires competent handling. Only experienced producers ensure shipments without quality
fluctuations. Newcomers offer inferior quality and uncertain deliveries. Strict control of the complete
manufacturing process must be claimed by each serious exporter.
Availability: There grow sufficient trees which supply the raw material basis. But profound knowledge of
each harvest region and its gains of acceptable quality are essential to have enough material to be
exported on hand.

Quality: The existent trees become older. This causes longer production times for superior
qualities and enlarged production waste due to risen quantity of inferior raw material

Availability: Expected to remain constant - West Java is still the only harvesting and producing
region jet. But the enormous stock of Arenga trees outside of West Java causes the
Indonesian government to make accessible these regions to create new raw material sources.
But starting time is not clear as the infrastructure has to be build up

Prices: It is expected that the price level will be maintained. The probability for an increase of
bristle fibre price is low. Differences are caused by the low demand for mattress fibre.
Quality: The coir fibre producers do their best to improve the quality of the fibre. All
producers and buyers look intensely for good Quality. Two kinds of new machines have been
introduced to the industry. But they are not very popular. However, the traditional milling still
continues providing good quality material
Availability: Coconut husks supply the basis for Coconut Fibre. The availability depends
strongly on the harvest results. Urbanization is killing the coconut trees, But the coconut
plantation is re-started. The coconut from these areas will boost the coir industry in the near
Future:
