CURIOUS STUDENT
INVESTIGATORS….
HOT ON THE TRAIL OF
LEARNING!
Deer Creek Elementary
2012-2013
Students shall receive semester grades based
on the following scale:
A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 0-59
Discipline with Love and Logic Four Basic Principals:
The student’s self-concept is always a prime
consideration.
The child is always left with a feeling that he/she
has some control.
An equal balance of consequences and
empathy replaces punishment whenever possible.
The student is required to do more thinking than
the adult.
Keeping high expectations in line with positive support
should be our goal. Should turning in assignments
become a problem, or if there is an apparent area of
weakness in skills, or if behavior changes, we will
certainly notify you of any concerns we may have.
Likewise, if you have any questions or concerns,
please come to us so we have the opportunity to work
as a team. That is our main objective in teaching your
child…..working together in your child’s best interest.
District Policy says Fourth Graders will have 50 minutes
of homework each night.
Our homework will generally consist of the following:
1) complete unfinished class work
2) read your AR book
3) practice addition, subtraction, multiplication,
& division facts
4) study Spelling words
*There will occasionally be an extra assignment or
project due as well.
Late work will be penalized 5 points.
Daily work may be taken home if it isn’t completed during the day,
and it needs to be brought back to school the next school day.
In the case of an absence, the student will have 2 days to make
up assignments.
If more than 1 day is missed, more time will be given.
•Agendas will be filled out everyday.
•Unfinished work will be circled, and finished work will
be crossed out.
•This is to be used as a tool for communication
between parents and child about school, as well as
keeping up with assignments.
•Agendas need to be signed daily by a parent or guardian.
•All work will be kept in a folder that comes back and
forth to and from school daily.
•We will also have Tuesday folders for school-wide notes
to go home in each week.
•Our class newsletter as well as graded papers will be
in the Tuesday folder.
•All assignments and announcements will be posted on
the Deer Creek Elementary website. Find the teachers
name and go to their site and you will have a wealth of
information.
•
•AR is a reading program designed to keep students
reading!
•Students will take the STAR test to help determine
reading levels.
•Students’ AR goals for each quarter will be based on the
STAR test.
•At the end of each nine weeks an AR test grade will be given.
This will be the average of all the AR tests that a
student takes during that grading period.
Students are expected to know all basic addition,
subtraction, and multiplication facts through 12’s.
Students progress on their basic facts will be monitored
by the teacher. If a student is having difficulty, you will
be contacted and asked to help your child at home using
wrap-ups, flashcards, and mad minutes to help them be
successful at school.
We must know these well, in order to move onto the
higher level problem-solving skills in 4th grade.
Please remember that Attendance is a critical
part of our school’s success!
It is very important that your child is here on
time every day, unless he/she is sick.
If your child has a birthday he/she would like to
celebrate, you may send a snack for the class to eat.
Please bring snacks that are ready to serve…..
no cutting, etc.
If your child has a summer birthday, we will arrange a
time for them if you’d like.
Each day students may bring healthy snacks to
eat during snack time in the morning.
We prefer children not bring chips, cookies,
or candy.
for taking the time to attend Back to School Night!
We look forward to working with you and your child this year. It is going
to be a wonderful year filled with exciting learning activities!
