About the DSA
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is a unit of
the School of Social Sciences, Loyola Schools, Ateneo de
Manila University. Founded in 1960 by a Jesuit
anthropologist, Fr. Frank Lynch, S.J., it trains its students to
use sociological and anthropological perspectives in the
analysis and interpretation of contemporary issues. It offers
a program of studies leading to:

The Institute of Philippine Culture is a multidisciplinary
research organization of the School of Social Sciences of
the Loyola Schools, Ateneo de Manila University. Founded
in 1960 by Fr. Frank Lynch, S.J., the IPC seeks a better
understanding of culture and society in the Philippines and
other Asian countries, an improved quality of life for
disadvantaged groups, and a more peaceful, just, and
equitable national and global society.

The Bohol Quartet
17 April – 9 May 2012
In cooperation with the local governments of Alburquerque,
Baclayon, Loay and Loboc; the Center for Culture and Arts
Development of the Province of Bohol; and the Department of
History and the Fine Arts Program of Ateneo de Manila University
The Ateneo Cultural Laboratory (ACL) in beautiful
Bohol is a three-week intensive program in the summer
of 2012 that will:

developmental needs in the community.

The Laboratory is run by the Department of
Sociology and Anthropology’s Cultural Heritage
Studies Program. This year, the ACL is directed by Dr.
Fernando Zialcita (Director, Cultural Heritage Studies
Program) and Dr. Czarina Saloma (Director, Institute
of Philippine Culture).
Course Content
• Forms of cultural heritage
• Issues in heritage preservation
• Field and archival methods of research
• Documentation of Bohol’s storied cultural heritage
by teams
• Tour script, learning kits and packaging of cultural
products
• Integrating cultural heritage into local planning and
development
• Report to the governments of Bohol towns and
their stakeholders
Students who enroll in the program will earn 6 units of
credit. Participants will also be given a certificate of
course completion in cultural heritage documentation.
