Introduction
Gregor Mendel was an Austrian
monk who lived in the mid
1800s. He spent most of his time
in the garden where he took care
of pea plants. Mendel wondered
how plants inherited the trait of
height (tall or short) from their
parents.
To find out he conducted
experiments over many years. He
mated mother plants and father
plants to observe how the
offspring (baby plants) would
look.
Question to Explore
You will simulate Mendel’s experiments. Instead of real plants, you
will use pennies to represent the mother and father plants. Each penny
has two sides because each parent has two genes.
However, a parent can only pass one gene (one side) to their child. You
will simulate this by flipping the coin.
By conducting the experiments on this lab, you will be investigating
the following questions:
– How are traits passed from parent to offspring?
– How does chance play a role in inheritance?
TO DO!
As you complete each step under the
procedure please check it off.

– Complete Step 22 for Homework!
