ATP-PC Energy System
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1.
Am I able to explain the ATP-PC
System?
2.

TASK


Explain how ATP is re-synthesised in the APTPC system
You must include information on the following:
Endothermic Reaction
 Exothermic Reaction
 Use of Enzymes
 COUPLED REACTION

TRAINING ADAPTATIONS
Anaerobic Training overloads the ATP/PC
system and increases the body’s muscle
stores of ATP and PC
 This delays the threshold between the
ATP/PC and the Lactic Acid System
 Therefore increases the potential duration
of high intensity exercise for up to 1-2
seconds

ADVANTAGES OF THE ATPPC ENERGY SYSTEM
 Discuss
what you think the advantages
of the ATP-PC Energy System
 Come up with 3 advantages
ADVANTAGES OF THE
ATP-PC ENERGY SYSTEM






No O2 required
PC stored in muscle cell as readily available
energy source
Very quick re-synthesis of ATP
Provides energy for high intensity exercise
No harmful by-products that will cause fatigue
Recovery for this system is very quick due to
quick re-synthesis of PC
DISADVANTAGES OF THE
ATP-PC ENERGY SYSTEM
 Discuss
what you think the
disadvantages of the ATP-PC Energy
System
 Come up with 2 disadvantages
DISADVANTAGES OF THE
ATP-PC ENERGY SYSTEM
 Only
a small amount of ATP and PC
stored in muscle cells
 Only one ATP is re-synthesised for
one PC
 Only provide energy to re-synthesise
ATP for a maximum of 10 seconds
FACTS OF THE ATP-PC
SYSTEM
The ATP/PC System works under
Anaerobic conditions
 The fuel for this system is
Phosphocreatine
 This reaction takes place in the
sarcoplasm of the muscle cells

PLENARY
 Discuss
how you think ATP can be resynthesised during exercise lasting
longer than 10 seconds
