during the Renaissance?
• Renaissance = rebirth
• During the Middle ages Europe
suffered from both war and plague.
• Those who survived wanted to
celebrate life and human spirit
• The Middle Ages could not prevent
war or relieve suffering
– People questioned the church
– In northern Italy writers and artists
began to express this new spirit
