Veronica Mullally Muñoz Partner, New York
Veronica Mullally Muñoz is a partner in the Litigation and Life Sciences groups in Pearl
Cohen’s New York office. Formerly a partner at Hogan Lovells, Veronica concentrates her
practice on patent litigation and counseling. She is a registered patent attorney with
extensive trial experience. Her 18 years of litigation experience includes multiple HatchWaxman pharmaceutical cases. Other patent infringement cases she has handled involved a
wide range of technologies including: biologics, siRNA, gene sequencing, transgenic plants,
cardiovascular stents, medical devices, and drug delivery technology.
Before attending law school, Veronica was a biochemist and did post-graduate research in
endocrinology. She also worked in leukemia research at the John Radcliffe, Oxford, UK. And
later became a research scientist at Celltech, Ltd., UK, where she helped develop some of the
first diagnostic uses for monoclonal antibodies.

Represented Alcon in multiple Hatch-Waxman infringement cases, all of which were resolved
successfully by obtaining a favorable settlement on the eve of trial or by summary judgment.
Successfully, defended an appeal to the Federal Circuit on an issue of first impression and
subsequently defeated the petition for certiorari to the US Supreme Court
Represented Alere in a patent infringement litigation involving a consumer immunohistochemical
pregnancy test device implementing source code for a patented algorithm.
Obtained a preliminary injunction for a biotechnology company in a trade secret case involving
siRNA lysosomal delivery technology. The case was subsequently resolved by favorable
settlement
Represented Ortho against Amgen in an arbitration involving rights to ARANESP®, a hematopoeitic
biologic with a $3 billion market.
Represented Dow Agro Sciences, in multiple biotechnology patent infringement suits. Successfully
tried a 146 Action involving priority of invention of a commercially valuable gene against
Monsanto in a bench trial. Invalidated Syngenta’s patents in a jury trial. Other cases were
resolved by favorable settlement.
Represented Cordis enforcing pioneering patents on cardiovascular stent devices , obtained
verdicts of infringement in successive jury trials against multiple defendants and obtaining multimillion dollar damages awards against each defendant.
